Richard F. "Dick" Gaylord, 2009 Immediate Past President

Richard F. "Dick" Gaylord, a REALTOR® from Long Beach, Calif., is 2009 Immediate Past President of the National Association of REALTORS®. NAR, The Voice for Real Estate®, is America’s largest trade association, representing more than 1.3 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
Gaylord has been a REALTOR® for 30 years. He is a broker with RE/MAX Real Estate Specialists in Long Beach, a residential and commercial brokerage. He holds the professional designations of Certified Residential Specialist (CRS®), Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager (CRB), Certified International Property Specialist (CIPS), and Graduate, REALTOR® Institute (GRI). He also is a member of several NAR affiliates including the Council of Residential Specialists, the Council of Real Estate Brokerage Managers and Women’s Council of REALTORS®.
In 2008, Gaylord served as NAR President. In 2007, he served as President-Elect. In 2006, he was NAR First Vice President. In 2003, he served as NAR regional vice president for Region XIII, which includes California, Hawaii and Guam. He also has served on NAR’s Executive Committee since 2001 and has been on the Board of Directors since 1995. He chaired the Issues Mobilization Committee in 1999 and was a member of the Strategic Planning, Convention, Public Policy, and Political Communications committees. He is an RPAC Life Member and a member of the RPAC Hall of Fame.
In 2000, Gaylord was president of the California Association of REALTORS®. He chaired the California Real Estate PAC (CREPAC) in 1999, and has served on many C.A.R. committees including the Federal Issues, Educational Services, Political Affairs, and Convention committees. He was named state “REALTOR® of the Year” by his peers in 2000.
At the local level, Gaylord was twice president of the Long Beach District Board of REALTORS® (now Pacific West Association of REALTORS®) in 1992 and in 1987. He chaired the Political Affairs Committee twice, Board of REALTORS® PAC (BORPAC) twice, and the Professional Standards, Grievance, and Past Presidents' Advisory committees. He was also a member of the Finance Committee. Gaylord was named "REALTOR® of the Year" by his local peers in 1986.
Active in the community, Gaylord has been a member of the Long Beach City College Personnel Commission for 10 years and chairman three times. He also was a member of the Long Beach Economic Development Task Force. Dick is a member of St. Bartholomew's Church.
