Every one of us has the capacity to be a Good Neighbor in ways both large and small. The Good Neighbor Award winners and finalists are shining examples of how one person can make a dramatic difference in a community. But don’t be intimidated by the level of their generosity. Even small efforts make a difference.

This first module of the Good Neighbor Tool Kit, Becoming a Volunteer, will help you assess what kind of work you'll find most fulfilling and to help you be the best volunteer you can be. You’ll find tips on making time for service work, identifying your valuable skills, determining what type of work is likely to be most rewarding for you, recruiting and retaining volunteers, and raising money for your cause.

The second module of the Tool Kit, Leading a Nonprofit, will help volunteer leaders run their organizations more efficiently and successfully, with information on the business side of volunteer work, including setting up a foundation, obtaining nonprofit status, creating a board of directors, writing grant proposals, and much more.

If you’d like to be interviewed on any of these topics, e-mail sgeimer@realtors.org.

If you’ve been meaning to get involved in your community, or are looking for ways to improve your contribution, there’s no better time than now.
