  Improve Participation in Meetings
If you’ve ever felt like you were conducting a sales meeting with a bunch of wax figures, use these facilitator tips to spur more activity.

· Ask participants what they expect to gain from the meeting.

· Never put down a question or comment with: “That’s silly.” or “That would never work.”

· If a participant seems uninvolved, call on him for his opinion.

· Don’t let one person dominate the discussion. Thank him and move on.

· Ask each speaker to call on the next person to respond to questions.

· Break up people that always sit together to create new group dynamics.

· Never look at the person speaking. Instead make eye contact with other members of the group to get them involved.

· Disagree (gently) with a participant to stimulate the discussion.

· Ask everyone who agrees with a statement to raise their hands.
