Education Survey Highlights Part 2

Highlights of the 2004 NAR Education Habits and Topics Survey
Comments from Respondents

In June 2004, NAR surveyed 10,000 Realtors to learn about their opinions and experiences with online education. 1,360 members responded - a 14% response rate.

For the most part, the comments were positive. REALTOR® members see online education as a viable alternative to traditional classroom education. Survey respondents shared a wide variety of reasons why online education works for them.

Online works for people who live away from large metropolitan areas, as this respondent explains:
"Being able to decide when and where is a great benefit to online courses. If something pops up you can rearrange your study time. Also, travel is eliminated which is a huge plus. Especially for those of us in remote locations."

Online education is also popular with new agents:
"I am a relatively new agent that believes education is key to success. I would love to see more online and CD-ROM based education courses available."

"I am new to the business and would really appreciate more online classes especially for the cost and time savings."

Some REALTORS® feel that online education best fits their learning style.
"I thought I got more out of doing a course online than in the classroom. I found myself very engaged in the reading of the material and probably learned more."

"I feel like I learned more online than in the classroom. I could re-read the parts I didn't understand and had better concentration and I think I tested better, too!"

Online education is not perfect, however, as many respondents provided suggestions on how to improve the online courses. "Update courses more frequently" and "develop more indepth courses" were some ways education providers could improve their offerings.
