Spending his entire life in his native Pittsburg, where he became a leader not only in business circles but in various other community affairs, Henry Paul Haas, by his success, contributed much to the development and to the larger prosperity of his community.
Educated in the Pittsburg public schools, he began his business career in 1887 as office boy in the firm of Black and Baird, prominent real estate developers of the day. In 1903 he became one of the organizers of the Freehold Real Estate Company, other organizers of which included former U.S. Senator David A. Reed and the late Senator William Flinn. He served as its president until his death. President also of nine Pittsburgh real estate development companies and of the Monongahela Water Company and Ohio River Valley Water Company, Mr. Haas pioneered in the development of South Hills, West View, Forest Hills and West Park. His work covered land development of all sides of Pittsburg.
An early president of the Pittsburg Real Estate Board, and a member of the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce, he also served many years on the Zoning and Planning Commission of Pittsburg.
